Small Little Wins

Three little wins this week.

The one teen who has been with us for over a year has truly stolen my heart. Watching her journey has been nothing short of remarkable. When she first came into our lives, she was quiet, shy, and carried so much worry on her shoulders. You could see in her eyes that she was always bracing for the worst, unsure of her place in the world.

Over time, though, something beautiful began to unfold. Slowly, that timid girl blossomed into a confident young woman who now walks with her head held high. She no longer lets the opinions of others weigh her down. Instead, she takes pride in who she is and isn’t afraid to stand tall when the moment calls for it.

The changes haven’t just been on the outside, either. When she first came to us, her grades were all failing. School felt like an uphill battle she couldn’t win. But with stability, encouragement, and the belief that she could succeed, she turned things around. Now she’s pulling in A’s and B’s, and I couldn’t be prouder. Every report card feels like a victory worth celebrating.

From the very beginning—even back when we only had her on weekends—I knew there was something special about her. I knew she was my girl. And today, seeing the confident, resilient, and determined young woman she’s becoming, I’m reminded of just how far she’s come. She is living proof that with love, patience, and a safe place to grow, incredible things can happen.

Little wins , After laying our 4-year-old down for bed, he asked me for a back rub. As I rubbed his back, he gently placed his little hand on my cheeks and whispered, “I love you so much.” I cried myself to sleep that night, grateful for the reminder of why all the hard days are worth it.

Mornings in court are heavy. You walk in with a teen who has carried more than most adults could handle, and you just hope that in some small way you’ve made a difference in her life. Sitting there, I couldn’t help but notice how the people around her—caseworkers, attorneys, staff—saw the change too. They noticed the way she was dressed, the way she carried herself with a quiet confidence that wasn’t there before.

That kind of transformation doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from stability—knowing she has a safe place to land, people who believe in her, and consistency she can count on. Watching her in that courtroom, I realized that stability has given her the courage to stand tall, the confidence to believe she can make it, and the hope that her story isn’t defined by her past.

Those moments remind me why we keep showing up, even on the hardest days. Because sometimes the difference isn’t loud or obvious—it’s in the small, steady changes that build a foundation for a whole new future.
