No one ever really talks about how hard Christmas can be with a five-year-old in foster care. While everyone else is making wish lists and talking about toys, all he asks for—over and over—is his momma. He hasn’t seen her in six months, and the last time was only through a video call.

One hard part of foster care is loving these kids so closely while having almost no say in the things that shape their everyday lives.

 Fall break of 2025. It was one hell of a weekend, to say the least. Probably one of the hardest I’ve had since starting this journey. We had one child go to what will hopefully be his forever home. Watching him leave today hurt more than I expected. The hardest part was seeing no emotion in his eyes as he walked away. That was really hard for me. I’ve built a real relationship with this kiddo over the past year. I’m so happy for him, though. Wish him the best, 

I haven’t been doing this long, but one thing I’ve already noticed about teens in foster care is this: most of them still have their mom in the picture. It’s the dad who’s usually missing. Either he was never really there, or they never even knew him.

The one teen who has been with us for over a year has truly stolen my heart. Watching her journey has been nothing short of remarkable. When she first came into our lives, she was quiet, shy, and carried so much worry on her shoulders. You could see in her eyes that she was always bracing for the worst, unsure of her place in the world.

The things we do to fight for these foster kiddos… This week has been one of the hardest yet—a true roller coaster of emotions. Between visits from DCS and RCs, and the constant fear that we could lose the kids in an instant, it’s been overwhelming.

Foster care is not for the weak. It's a journey full of highs and lows — some days you're flying, and other days you feel like you’re barely holding on.
